I remember watching Donna Reed, Leave It To Beaver, and other family shows, and wondering, if there were there really families like that. I sure didn't know of any! Wonderful Part One! I'm looking forward to reading more, K.C.!!

I didn't know any families like that, either, Sharon. Thank you for the kind words. I appreciate your feedback and support.

"... that perfect place ... where there was no loneliness, no cruelty, and no abandonment." A fairy tale, indeed! Oh, if only that world could exist! I expected this story would turn dark. He had no. idea who he was marrying. Nor did she... eeeks!

Your commentary is right on the mark. Colleen desires the fantasy life of the Donna Reed Show. I'm not sure what Thomas wants, maybe a compliant wife. Eventually reality will step into the picture. I always enjoy your comments, Cousin. Thank you for restacking. I appreciate the support.

I am HOOKED!!! What a story ... such a great premise! Can't wait for the next part!! :D

A writer can't ask for more than "hooked". Thank you for the kind comment and for your support, Laura.

I know I have to wait for the rest, but it’s going to be hard. I want to know what this woman will do to rediscover happiness.

Chomping at the bit, eh, Lee? That's great to hear. Colleen has some high expectations. We'll see. Thank you for your comment and support.

The melancholy of the orphan, the alienation of the abandoned housewife. Colleen is just my kind of character. Beautiful story, K.C.! Look forward to part two.

Thank you for your generous words, Jesse. Well, given you like Colleen, you should enjoy the rest of the story. Hope you do. I appreciate the restack, as well.

I think the best testament to how compelling your writing is, K.C., is that you're able to get the reader invested early on even though most of part 1 is devoted to Colleen's backstory. That's truly impressive. The atmosphere is emotional in a nostalgic way, with a lingering unease.

I'm not sure Colleen's "lack of identity," as it were, is pointing to anything good but maybe that's just the way she loves. I'm so looking forward to part 2!

Your comments often read like a book review, Christopher, and I find them enlightening. Thank you for your generous assessment of part one. Change is in the works for Collen's marriage in part 2. I'm pleased you plan to be along for the ride.

Wow. Poor little Colleen had it rough. I remember believing things I saw on TV as a boy, too. I used to think the world was in black and white before color TV was invented. Hehe. It's funny what TV can do with a kid's imagination. I like that she met a good man and got married. At least, he seemed like a good man then. This is shaping up well. I have no idea where it's going. Great start, KC.

K.C. Knouse's avatar

I'm pleased that you enjoyed part 1 and that you don't know where it is going, Parker. That way you will have to read parts 2-4 to find out.😉 Thank you for commenting and for restacking. Your support is appreciated.

Your comment couldn't be more satisfying for me, Jim. I'll try not to disappoint in subsequent parts. Thank you for your support.

Love the premise. I like the timeline jump also. I'm thinking you didn't start at the end--that maybe there is something good in store for Colleen post-divorce. We'll just have to wait and see.

Nice work, KC.

K.C. Knouse's avatar

Thank you for the generous comment, Jim. I did not start the story at the end---close, but not the end. There is room for hope. Thanks, also for restacking. I appreciate your support.

thanks, KC. I'll be here next week. Same time, Same station!

I believe it was a dated comment. it was from our time, and we definitely have license to use it.

It was common back when there were only three television networks.

& who can forget the playing of the national anthem followed by a "Test pattern", after going off the air at midnite?

K.C. Knouse's avatar

Thanks for the memories, Ira. I hadn't thought about that in years.

We survived without non stop "content", 24-7. In some circles, today, that might seem like science fiction, or maybe horror. (wistful chuckle).

This is gonna be good, KC. I'm looking forward to it. Anyone who will pack a grocery bag of her stuff and start "walking to Hollywood" has my attention. : )

K.C. Knouse's avatar

Yeah, you've hit the road a time or two, haven't you, James. An ambitious running away from foster home, for sure. Good to have you on board, Brother. Thank you for your comment and support.
